Poem Artwork

The sacrifice consumed
Insofar as able
The shaven and perfumed
Push back from the table

But when they do they see
As though from far away
Those watching hungrily
Who go without today

Uncomfortably they
Agree to disagree
Who once they do think twice
To see the sacrifice

I'm going to guess that you are writing a parable here about how the greedy rich are sacrificing the planet while the poor watch and covet what the rich have.

I am guessing readers will have difficulty forming a response to this one, Steven. I am having that difficulty and enjoying the challenge and squeeze of that. I'll just say what it makes me feel: (that's what it's all about anyway) -- I feel the image is shocking and sublime in the way of being impressively powerful and terrible at the same time. That creates the setting for the stage of your poem, an equally powerful depiction of that very posted image's effect upon the observer. Such polarities being illuminated in three short stanzas produced a wave of response in me. Perhaps within the body of "The Sacrifice" you have spelled out the crux of The Human Condition. So has the art piece, for me. Staggeringly effective. ~~ Diana

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
