for Franziska
I
I want to write clearly
Speaking truth as nearly
As my eyes can see it
Rising then to be it
And being it to do
What it takes to be true
I want to be so you
When you remember me
Remember me truly
II
I dig a big dog can you?
Dig a big fat cat that too
Once Franziska had a rat
She dug that was big and fat
And so she had the best of
Big and fat in ratly love
Though she was allergic to
Him so bid adieu ah-CHOO
She is not allergic to
Me I am glad to say who
Can dig a big dog can you?
(I can dig Franziska too)
III
I had a cat named Noodles once I miss
Who disappeared one day a lot like this
For thirteen years he was my roommate and
I always had someone to understand
Then he was gone when I had to go on
Noodles Freddie Noodles I miss you so
When you went missing we both had to go
And I lost everything I had went mad
Who whatever happened never to know
But you were the best cat I ever had
IV
The wheel of life turns
And somebody learns
The hard way again
The only way then
How we know now when
Through the surprising
To where we must go
Turning but rising
Sometimes we just know
And somebody learns
The wheel of life turns
