I

Today before tomorrow but
Tomorrow never comes
And yesterday seems more like what
Was once today becomes

Tomorrow is like yesterday
Except always unknown
But both alike a day away
The unknown from the known
Forgetting yesterday I let
Tomorrow go today

Tomorrow never comes and yet
Maybe it always was
How then becomes now to borrow
A day away a day
Earned yesterday to learn my way
Today by tomorrow

Maybe it never comes because
To keep me keeping on
Today is what tomorrow does
When yesterday is gone

II

I used to live by fear
But by love I am here

When someone was something wrong
One thing is to be sorry
A debt of regret to pay
As some who were wrong are we
Who were sorry all along
And as I am anyway

Another is to grow
And so I had to go

Sadder but wiser today
For being wrong then so long
And as I was yesterday
Doing wrong being that way
Living it down by living
It up now by forgiving

Forgiven and giving
Myself an outliving

Forgetting it if I may
Getting it getting along
Letting go of being wrong
Setting my sights high to be
Betting on a better me
Getting better every day

I went all the way and
Having gone understand

Here by love to live and die
Understand or wonder why
This is it and here and now
Underneath the bright blue sky
Here I stand and here am I
What I have and why and how

Love to live and die for
Someone afraid no more

III

With no one else around I found
Myself to be understood by me
Unjudgmental understanding
Found us bound the same way undemanding

Though once we hardly got along
Went round and round we have come a long
Way in our way which is to say
Lancean we who find ourselves three strong

When I run into me today
I find myself not running away
Then whenever I am around
And encounter myself I stop and stay

We understand but wonder so
Understanding wondering we see
Us go on with the show we know
The end of the play in our way we three

Visions of A Skylark Dressed in Black by Aberjhani

“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
