I

Large carnivores on the floor at my feet
Hi-Desert hounds who are bound to eat
Any humankind found not to be kind
But finding most of us mindful rest
Here where they love me above all the best

Should now become then someday again
Somebody who gets depressed and yet blessed
I want to remember this now lest
I forget how I get it finally
Somebody cares about me I see

Seeing them being I too would be then
Seeing somebody cares about me

II

Happy Fourth of July everyone
And fifth sixth seventh through always too

Though clearly we are not nearly done
To know who we are so what to do
Is a freethinking way to begin
Feeling our independence as one
Any out of many to be free

Real independence depending on
The interdependence of us who
Depend on each other being when
Seeing us there know where we are then
Between us do what we mean to be

Together whether or not we see
Together is what we mean to me

III

Younger I was usually wrong
Older with an unusually long
Memory because still being now
Till long enough to get it right somehow
I do now and then having learned when
Having turned out wrong but having earned then
The right to try again who turn out

When having been wrong to be right about
Now and how I do it is to free
A possibility through a question
Being right now about to find out
Seeing what is by freeing what can be
No doubt about it sometimes a doubt
Becomes an existential suggestion

If there is no answer where to find
Out if in doubt is through an open mind

Omega Factor by John Henning
