The Morning Star Rose Anyway

I

I could explain but would rather not
Or would complain but for what I have got
To remember past before I forgot
Last spring as it passed forgot to remember

With so much to remember to forget
Then when I have not forgotten yet

Remembering now in December
When this is it how this moment is what
I am here for what comes after before
Becomes now then steadily ready or not

Seeing I am I would like to be more
Being my moment I am here for

II

Some of the effects of aging are OK
My stomach has completely disappeared
Nor has my hair fallen out as I had feared
But grown into a mane albeit grey
To go with the wizardly white of my beard

And even though I am a madman now
Not a sad man which makes it better somehow
Absurdity works for me anyway
And when I get depressed and then forget why
I let it go and go look at the sky

No more do I have to prove anything to
Anyone but me the best I can do
For the rest of my days as an old man who
Finally got it and forgot it too
Some of the effects of aging are OK

III

The morning star rose like a jewel
Over the kind and the cruel
Seeing humans being kind or not

The sun is up and this is what
Seeing by the light of dawn I find
The tie that binds unties behind
Seeing eyes pretending being blind

Denying the reality
Of the humanity of our kind
Seeing humans being unkind

But when some humans are unkind to
Some others in kind human too
Choosing to lose their humanity
Where is the kind in humankind?

Not in the papers but today
My eyes still open to hope I see
The morning star rose anyway

I like the good news of aging. So far I haven't experienced any of those--yet. As far as Venus goes, she is a hothouse planet that ours is tending toward. Those of us here on earth would need to hear her story as she rises and realize we are headed in the same direction if we don't stop bickering and take care of business.

A wise and thought provoking pen. I really loved this phrase, "But grown into a mane albeit grey To go with the wizardly white of my beard" Our lives are so transient, good to know that some things continue as ever.
