Surprisingly
The yellow moon rises cut in half
Over where the coyotes laugh
Soon to slide slantwise across the sky
Out my bedroom window and I
Saw rusty Mars out the kitchen door
Where it had been the night before
Sparking the dark incandescently
Maybe in solidarity
With those looking up from far away
I took it that way anyway
On a night it could not be clearer
How things are looking up for me
Down here looking up and seeing more
Of being now seeing what for
Being grateful for my chance to be
When it will be tomorrow soon
The red sun after the yellow moon
Seeing the possibility
It has to get dark enough to see
When the falling stars fall nearer
I see one clearly in my mirror
Rising up here surprisingly
