Up Out of the Dust

for Guy Lance

In the dark where chaos is beckoning
After the wrecking a spark of reckoning
A recognizing of reality

Eyes that stopped hoping are opening tonight
Wondering how it ever got this far
Understanding now this is not who we are
Realizing we are better than this

Misbegotten meanness is not what we mean
Done in our name to us ultimately
Let us not forget about what we have seen

But remember what connects us between
To get this is it when it feels like a kiss
To do what we must to see ourselves free
Out of this gaslighting unreality

People in the dark say let there be light
Unbinding us from this blind inanity
Binding us into its blind vanity

Having been lied to by those who have tried to
Deny us the right to see what they do
A nation bought and sold without being told
Worries about being out in the cold

Hoping for light that was so far out of sight
For so long our eyes will have to adjust
Until we can see ourselves free in the end

A spark in the dark until we transcend
To be ourselves again and do what we must
To find our country wherever it went
Whatever it may cost this is what we meant

To find again our lost humanity
Rising within us up out of the dust

"A nation bought and sold without being told"................I truly believe that this is what is going on and your last two lines are very powerful! I can just see it when it happens, Steven!!

Love ya!

I love the imagery of humanity rising from the dust. It's here but hidden.

We never lost it. We just got complacent and let a small minority run things. Fortunately, that is changing.

We are certainly are like the Primrose. We will come forth again if required and the conditions are right.
