The Fifth of July

Shaken awake by an earthquake the morning
Of the Fourth of July like a warning
About what I see every day on TV
Out here they put out a fire that night
Holidays have never quite agreed with me

Just as well for me I never knew
One not too bright thought it might be fun to light
A bottle rocket and shoot it into
The midst of this valley they call Paradise
Where shaken from waking by earthquake
I had taken to my bed and slept right through

Waking up making my mind up to make
The best of not making the same mistake twice
Taking my advice on the Fourth I
Was looking forward to the fifth of July
A day without an earthquake might be nice

But then it came like an aftershock before
Shaking me the same but more to wake
On the sixth anyway to pray for no more
Earthquakes in store like that one tonight
If tomorrow comes may it awaken
One once mistaken to be one unshaken

One of any of the many who
Are going through it not knowing what to do
But be so may I be doing it right
One old man to be unshakably
If tomorrow comes may it come quietly

The price of living in shaky quaky land. It doesn't get any easier not knowing when and if a bigger one will come along.

Love ya!
