A Change of Heart

When the mind has left the heart behind
It poses a problem for humankind
The mind wonders how it could be wrong
Somehow the heart understood all along

After a little embarrassment
The mind realizing what the heart meant
Surprisingly finds out it must feel
Right by heart about what might not be real

When it feels unreal is when we find
Reality through our humanity
The mind might forget the ties that bind
But the heart can feel who we really are

The heart comes through to be proven true
Though the mind finds it inconvenient

To know then before we go too far
When we never meant to go where we went
We can be more real than we have been
Feel our way back to being real again

The mind admits to what is amiss
But the heart knows we are better than this
The heart reminds humankind to be
Humans who are kind in reality

Never mind all of the lies that blind
The heedless despising us needlessly
The pain is real but the love is too
When the heart explains what the mind must do

Realizing unreality
A change of heart precedes a change of mind

I do believe that when we do not allow ourselves to feel the wonderous emotions of love and compassion, the mind finds other
vehicles to fill the emptiness, and they are not always salutary to the soul. I have thoroughly enjoyed this poem. Have a great day dear Steven.

Somehow we give that incredibly strong muscle that pumps every minute of our lives much more credit than it is probably due. What you are really referring to is is our inner compass, our conscience that we call, "heart." For it is really the heart of the matter.
