Metamorphosis The birds fly at nightfall There might be an owl Sent from the after all Where my mother went And keeps an eye on me Two dogs cheek-by-jowl And I wait for sunset Soon the moon will rise We try not to forget To go out and see It might be a surprise Might be what is meant By serendipity We never know when We go what we might get Having never been Let down by it we let It be what might be Nightly in the silent Metamorphosis We hope with open eyes Living up to this Is it we realize Not giving up yet After all at nightfall Anything might happen So we wait for it Steven Curtis Lance

I love the way your mother cruised in on that owls wing.......I can just see it! The picture you paint is so serene!

I sense a bit of science fiction in this one. By going out under the desert stars, one might expect to be picked up by some extraterrestrial beings with that capability. Awaiting there in the dark only under the light of the stars, one can look forward to being swept up by extraterrestrials and transform into the butterflies (?) that we really are.
