Being referred to as "human capital stock"
Seeing words like "herd immunity" unlock
A stubborn stockyard stirring of humanity
In this human I am still being somehow
Uncertainly maybe but certainly no cow
As good a time as any to be human
Many would be but for authoritarian
Inhumanity in all its vanity
Futility to see beyond utility
Coldhearted disregard for old folks like me
Like a sacrificial offering to Mammon
Maybe I should die for the economy
Or the national cult of personality
That says to bow down or get out of the way
Not being a cow still human now anyway
Not part of the base in any case I know
Many of them say maybe better if I go
Though humanity is stubborn so I stay
Unfortunately, we need mammon to live. If we don't stockpile mammon but when we will need it, we will either get on the government dole or be in the street begging. Such is the harsh reality of life. And, not stockpiling something for rainy day, surely will shorten life. Easy come easy go.
