Living Up to Not Giving Up Now



I never thought I would live to see
It get like this and yet I do
Getting to be a hard time to be
Every day harder to live through

But having lived this long already
Into dystopia come true
With everything looking unsteady
I am ready for something new

It has got to get better than this
So until I die I will try
To live through it and do what I can
To better myself anyway

As a better not bitter old man
Ready now for better someday
Wondering under the starlit sky
At the Hi-Desert hideaway

But understanding it better than
I did getting out of its way
Getting to see from the outside in
Through a crack in society

Better at it so as not to miss
Belated opportunity
Looking back through the crack now and then
To see fate will do what it does

Seeing it better then someday when
Being a part of it because
I can still pray and write poetry
About getting better again

Until then to be and do my best
Getting better curiously
Having seen this much to see the rest
Someday getting better somehow

A bit better because of me
Living up to not giving up now
