Lost In The Mist

Blindly walking
through fog of milky gray
Never knowing
if I’m going the right way
Straining to hear
only the sound of silence
Inching slowly along
afraid I’ll lose my balance

Hands stretched before me
so as not to fall
Touching only emptiness
of this opalescence wall
Thick carpet of mossy peat
cushion the ground beneath my feet
The air hangs heavy
with this vaporous dew
Shimmering droplets
with a silvery hue

From out of the mist
comes the caress of a hand on mine
Knowing trust transcends
to assure all is fine
This masculine grip
is a welcome relief
To lead me
from this shroud of fog is my belief

“Come with me,
I’ll show you the way”
Is all the husky voice
attempted to say
To follow his lead
was no easy task
Fingers of smoky tendrils
tried to hold fast

A faceless entity
showing it wanted to compete
Anchoring my feet
in the carpet of mossy peat
A struggle ensued
to vie for my favor
To stay
in this world of murk
or have something new to savor

Inner turmoil
of decisions to make
Should I stay
or should I go for my own sake
The answer lies
in listening to my heart
To languish in this sea of gloom
or just to depart

So lead me from this beclouded land
of misery and waste
Far away to fields full of flowers
I’ll eagerly embrace
Explosions of color
for as far as I can see
Crystal blue ocean
unable to discern where sky and water meet
Scent of lavender
mixed with salty air
Caressing winds
that gently blow through my hair

Your hand
still firmly in mine
Reluctant to let go
fearing I won’t find you next time
Gentle features
begin to take place
Luminous eyes and soft lips
I can’t wait to taste

“Come with me…
I’ll lead you from this milky gray”
True to your words
my fear gone
I’ll follow you wherever you say…

Fog is one of my favorite things to write about. I like your images. They make me feel like I'm walking upon thick layers of moss.
