For once this heart beat strong and true ,
Because you said the words "I Love You".
Over time it succumbed to doubt,
That these three words were tossed out.
The trusting heart which once was red,
Lost its beat and wished it was dead.
Over time a hardened heart emerged
For the love and hurt it had purged.
Then separation came as the heart took flight,
Fleeing to safety in the dead of night.
Lonely as the days streamed by
Tears for what was would it cry.
Then returned those three little words,
A confession of the life you still yearned.
A present given of a single rose
And an arrow to break what froze.
Through the heart which lives again,
The straight arrow it did go,
Opening again the hardened heart
To feel we will never be apart.
