I have been married to my wife for sixty years on Christmas eve. This is a poem I have dedicated to her on our 60th wedding anniversary.

Sixty years where did they go?
The time has gone so fast.
When we were young, how could we know
Our devotedness would last.

A teenage girl you, fifteen years,
And me just two years more.
We stayed conjoined through mirth and tears,
Despite the scorn folks pour.

Through the years, devotion grew,
Though there were rock strewn ways.
What was the future? No-one knew,
Where lay our halcyon days.

We faced the thunder, lightning too.
There was no sterner test.
We faced the tears and laughed anew.
You were so strong – The best.

I never was a virtuous guy
I’ve done atrocious stuff.
I’ve often asked myself, “oh why
You found me good enough.”

So, looking back, I now see why,
My love for you is true .
Through all my failings you stood by.
I’m nothing without you.
