Classy Lassy the Junk Yard Dog

Classy Lassy lived at the Junkyard

 With un-saintly master Bernard.

He was mean and very grumpy

He made her life very hard

She hated living there because

The other dogs were so mean

So she’d hide out in the back

 And was almost never seen

But Bernard knew where to find her

And he would go out of his way

To scold her and to call her

Bad names every day

He said that she was smelly

And he would not play ball

Poor Classy Lassy

Didn’t feel classy at all

She had no place to sleep

Except a dirty old crate

That provided her some shelter

When the evening got late

But when it rained

The old crate leaked

It was hard to tell the raindrops

From the tears upon her cheek

She did not know why

She had done nothing wrong

So she would peer through the fence

And dream all day long

That someone would come

And give her a home

With a nice soft bed

And her very own bone

Finally one day

A man came into the yard

With a whole bunch of junk

He wished to discard

The man’s name was Bruno

And he drove a red truck

Could this be the day that

Would change Lassy’s luck?

He gave Bernard money

For taking his trash

And then drove away

Classy’s hopes had been dashed

She went back to her crate

With despair and dismay

Because here with Bernard

She was destined to stay

But the very next morning

The red truck came back

With Bruno inside

Carrying very big sacks

He spoke with Bernard

About making a trade

The big sacks of dog food

For Classy was made

Bruno picked her up gently

And placed her on the back seat

While she kissed his face softly

In her first chance to greet

She had made her escape

From Bernard’s special prison

Her prayers had been answered

It wasn’t a vision

Very soon they got home

Where she got her first bath

And then master Bruno

Began to laugh

Scraggly old Classy

Was furry and fluffy

No longer smelly and

No longer scruffy

The smile on his face

Made Lassy feel proud

So she threw back her head

And she barked really loud

Then she rolled in her soft bed

And gnawed on her bone

In the safety and comfort

Of this her new home

She had all the love now

She ever would need

And our sweet Classy Lassy

Became classy indeed

The End

:) I love Lassy!!!! She is adorable and the poem not only is a sweet one, but it also draws attention to animals with no homes, always a huge issue that's close to my heart. Blessings for writing this :) Michelle

I love a happy ending such as this one; I just wish there were far more of them today. Kudos to heroic old Bruno and his new Classy Lassy! (And to you, for penning this poem.)
