Wife’s ghostly moan in the midst of the night

As creatures scamper right across our bed

It’s just half past four and I’m now aware

That what’s happening is not in my head

The door is ajar as the wind rings the chimes

Outside our bedroom on the deck in the back

The footsteps are clear there’s somebody here

 I brace myself for the impending attack

The assault comes in waves as I try to be brave

I’m outnumbered and can’t see in the dark

I feel a knock on the head and a bounce on the bed

And hear the piercing high chirp of a bark

It’s all out war and they simply ignore

The fact that I’m trying to sleep

They jockey for pillows and roll on my face

The evil sisters the Weasel and Sheep

Housebroken dogs are simply a must

Though I’d prefer that they had better timing

For their wandering outside and returning to bed

So I can sleep till the alarm clock starts chiming
