Lyrics to live by

Photo of my dad

Poem Artwork

Oh so many years ago

When I was a young man

Dad sensed my indecision

He said son, you need a plan

Life is full of mystery

Everything has its price

The path you choose is up to you

But I’ll offer this advice

He said

Don’t eat the yellow snow

Don’t play with fire

Never hesitate to love

Keep your heart filled with desire

I offered up a protest

Claimed that’s no plan at all

For its utter simplicity

The path is way too small

Dad shook his head and chuckled

I’ll say it one more time

Too much complication

Is one lonesome paradigm

Just

Don’t eat the yellow snow

Don’t play with fire

Never hesitate to love

Keep your heart filled with desire

He’s been gone five years now

His advice was surely true

I’ve paid a price for many things

That includes life’s mysteries too

 I’ve decided that indecision

Is not necessarily bad

And life paths that I’ve chosen

Have some signposts from my dad

I don’t eat the yellow snow

I don’t play with fire

I never hesitate to love

I keep my heart filled with desire

I just love this! Your dad had some good advise that you are wise to follow. Yellow snow probably tastes terrrible, anyway! Fire burns, Love heals, and desire keeps us looking for something more - something better. Can't go wrong with that. ;-)

one of the best parts of growing 'upper'...discovering what wise parents we have/had...althoughit took you a awhile on the fire thingy...

i distinctly remember something about a hot tub fire...am sure there must have been a little 'playing around' connected w/ that one...hmmm?

What a charming and heart-warming poem! So beautiful Patrick!
Well there's this snowcone that I eat all summer, really yummy, and it sure is yellow snow but flavored with banana syrup.
Best Wishes,
Christine

Dad's are pretty smart, sometimes and I'm quite certain that he'd be real proud of the way you've taken to his teachings. Nicely Done. Dick
