In praise of the sky.

Poem Artwork

There is a roof over my head

call it the sky

blue by the day

invisible as night passes by,

if it were not there

life would not exist

yet for us all

it often gets a miss.

The envelope of air

betwix here and there

sustinence for life

replenished in a dance

that no mortal could concieve

a cycle of life

through green leaves.

You see a bird fly in mid-heaven

soaring with delight

like it owns that expanse,

without he would not exist

this Earth like Mars

would be a barren waste.

Yet day after day we take it for granted

that roof over our heads

beneath there is

a roof garden,

how long will it be there

till mans greed has its way

maybe like water

marketed in a can

pull the tab

then sniff away,

am I too cynical or is it real

is this roof over our heads

slowly fading away

will we end up

like Mars someday?

I certainly hope not, and I certainly hope not because of our greed and unconcern for the destruction we do for profit. In time, all of us will probably have to leave the planet behind because of some natural disaster or the sun grows too large in its death throes, probably making the earth more like Venus, than Mars.
