What is a direction, who put it there, why?

Poem Artwork

Left

right

do not walk on the grass,

oh yeah!

and why

I ask.

Pigeon does his own thing

around and around

left and right ignoring

walks on the grass

meandering.

Name

gender

male or female

like whats it to do with you

you piece of paper,

push

so I pull

always

I play

and look the fool

just me

absconding

from following directions

making out

I did not hear the instructions.

YOU CANNOT DO THAT

IN CAPITALS

well I did

so I'm rude

I guess,

so if I walk on the grass

when your not looking

ah! my day will be so blessed.

Oh we need them

I am told

like a furniture self assembly kit

you read the directions

but it's all Chinese instructions,

so you do it your way

kind of

60's pop art-ish

you know like that man

Pistasho I believe,

see never needed directions

or those Chinese instructions

I knew it all along

from the start

pure genius.

Then as the years

they march on

you still behave as a rebel

one whose cause has

long gone,

only now your rebellion

they put it all down to

your mind playing tricks

you have to laugh

they think its not doing

what the text book says,

so they ask you questions

like whats your name

and shout

can you hear me

can you tell the time?

So you smile

like the faries have arrived

repeat over and over

maybe

maybe,

it's worth seeing

the frustration in their eyes.

So blessed be directions

where shall we not go

just sit me on the circle line

and leave me alone

I am me

I am sure you know

and I refuse to sign on the dotted line

when its finally

my time to go.

Love this.

A wonderful exposé about what it's like to continue to rebel even into old age and you begin to face the constant directions that well-meaning people direct your way when they don't know the first thing about it.
