When I look back
to my life as a child
it only brings tears
thoughts running wild,
me filled with sadness
anger inside
too many chapters
that make me
want to hide.
Leave me alone
with my broken past
that non-existent childhood
that I never had,
what do you do
when no one has the glue
that love to stick it all together
never was there for you.
Why should I remember
what I never had
there is nothing there
yet it keeps
coming back,
years pass you fight and flight
yet that mold has you trapped
makes you angry inside.
Saw things that hurt
even now when I look back
I am filled with upset
though it is sixty years
in the past,
why did I become
a father stained with no childhood
it taught me sod all
except anger and pain.
So you learn the hard way
maybe too late
you cannot run away
at least not until
you wake up,
no more passing it around
even if it was way back then
accept it reject it
wipe it away
hug your child from yesterday.
Wipe his tears
that kid of thirteen
almost broken
hug him
now move on..
Dedicated to anyone who had a rubbish childhood.
Always,
Deborah
I never had children although I like them very much, so it's difficult for me to say what kind of father I would have been. I think a firm but kind one and more involved and generous than my father was.
Poetry like yours certainly helps the healing process that allows you away to express your anguish and your coming to grips with how you responded in adult life.
I would only hope that goes here that have had bad experiences that they do poetry about would move on after a while and write poetry about more uplifting things.
