After so many years
yet again it changes hands,
the house on the hill
that looks so grand.
Sold the agents board declares
by Hopton & Eve
wonder how many have lived there.
Since the bricks were laid
how many children
played in its garden grand
how many apples
from the orchard fell to the ground.
Sold sounds so sad
as if unloved and unwanted
I am sure it is not true
looks so well cared for updated.
Wonder what it cost
the first day it was sold
while now how much it was bought for
wild figures I am sure I would be told.
Yet the house looks preserved
survived its kith and kin
like a tree that outlives
this house keeps right on living,
perhaps forever
well give and take wear and tear
still in the meantime
wonder who will be living there.
