"To Be A Poet at Heart"

Like the song of a lonely bird

Love would forever be the joy of life

But life is hard

And the ways are dark

Dreaming the only reminder

Of days fading away in dusk of gold

Days like this

I sit on this rock…

Behind me…

Slumbering hues of dusk

Sand hills without memories!!

My heart remembering things

Mist rising from the dark Southside

Where I wander far and wide

To be a “poet” is hard work I think

All the visions of faith and romance

Dreams of gold

But with a heart so cold

A soaring skylark’ song brings pain to my heart

Love… the only real joy in life

But life is hard

And the ways are dark

Poetry makes me drift in dreams so sweet

Slowly… soundless on cotton clouds

Hushed and still…dreaming about true love

Dreaming dreams beyond this life

But for a moment

Eager and wild are the emotions

Of the passionate but poetic heart
