A Siren's Song

The Siren’s Song

 

The siren’s mating songs

Echoes

Like lamenting mournful souls

Lost in the night

Where the seas are calmed

As reflection less mirrors.

The winds blows nay

The cries of drowning

Salty seaman

Are heard and forgotten.

~*~

They too search

For a love that will never be

Sounds of bubbling gulps

Fade in the misty haunts

Of moonless nights.

~*~

So were the whispered songs

She once recited

To Me

During passionate nights

Share in moments past.

~*~

Just before my third

Disappearance

Into the unknown

The sea held for me

As I struggled to stay afloat.

~*~

I witnessed her

Straddled upon

A huge spotted shark

They dove silently into the depths

Of Poseidon’s domain.

Every sailor one time or another has heard that Sirene's call, and believe me, even if Ulysses had put wax in their ears...they would have heard the call.

I do remember my brother who sailed for 40 years telling me of the whispers of the sea as though he was being called. Thank you for sharing a great write.
