You discovered my worth long before I did.
For this, my friend, I will always thank you.
You didn't forget me...but I, I put you away
a long time ago - you gave your heart to another.
Hope disappeared and
a new path opened before me.
It would be twenty years; though at that time...
I believed it would be never again.
Ah, my friend, you found me;
you didn't leave me behind -
I was always on your mind;
Faith in myself was the missing ingredient.
It will be so very different this time,
I've grown, you've grown, hurt and tragedy
we both have known over the years.
Tears have been cried, and silence endured
through the dark and tumultuous
lessons along the way...what's that you say?
You're still whole, the lessons have not
damaged your soul too badly; but sadly,
so much time lost - at what cost did we
forfeit the sun to experience
a little shadow along the way?
Did we know then, there would be
another day in which to linger?
Did we see then, that now would come -
and bring back the golden sun
that used to shine in the excitement
that lay between us?
Youth has not left but only added
unto the delicacy of age...
And every page we have turned since
we looked last upon one another,
is a page marked and opened in the silence
of time, the journey was mine - you followed and
I in my blindness, never noticed how
much you cared.
I never dared to think that you
could drink in the beauty of me;
A beauty that was not there in my
outlook on self-esteem in those years,
I never dared to dream then -
Such warmth was always for others and not for me.
I didn't have eyes, my friend, I couldn't see,
such friendship couldn't belong to me.
I wasn't worthy enough - yet your heart
found its way through the rhythm and the
song of my soul - you found me.
Full circle we have come;
from friendship to the sun...
and back again.
