Poem Artwork

A haunted man, an artist, young once...
filled with dreams of fame and fortune.
Now, as a chilled river running deep,
he sits and dreams in his older years,
of opportunities missed, dreams lost,
first love gone - into the heart
of disillusionment.
Too old now to begin rebuilding old dreams,
yet still too young to give up on everything.
Like all of us, his regrets have
become prayers; prayers filled with the hope
that perhaps, just one more time before he leaves
this mortal existence, he will have the
opportunity to reach for that beautiful star
he missed along this path into the twilight of his life.
He sees and understands so much more
than he did then, and wishes he had
realized that perchance Love may not find
him again, and that opportunities, as those lost
in the woe-begotten dreams of yesteryear,
would not ever stand before him again.
And to ignore on a whim, a chance to fly,
one would simply have to question, "Why?"
He spends his days now at the corner cafe...
lost in a reverie of yesterdays, as he misses
what is left of his todays - dare he ever again
dream of what could be tomorrow?
