Mother Nature amazes me. I respect her power plays and am in awe at the beauty she, with God, creates.

This happened many years ago as I was driving from Atlanta to my home on the islands in Savannah. It was the grandest "power play" I've ever witnessed.

Merry Christmas*
Susan

The storm came from the northwest
It blew in with a front
It captured me as I drove
I caught most of the brunt
The sleet it came around Macon
It caused my eyes to laugh
I couldn't quite grasp the scene
I dropped the wheel to clap
My word what a phenomenon
I thought for just a while
When it continued to come down
I smiled and smiled and smiled
It followed me to Statesboro
And then the ground was white
Just like a dust of talcum powder
Upon the ground tonight
I made it to Savannah
What joy to see the homes
With snow that formed in minutes
I stopped my chance to roam
I sat real still in silence
I rubbed my eyes for truth
Depth to all that happened here
From skies turned gray from blue
The squares were wet and frosted
Like a fancy southern treat
My Gosh it snowed in Dixie
Like a powdered sugar treat
I started back up again
Then drove out to the marsh
It seemed just like a blizzared then
The chill was more than harsh
It was a sight worth grasping
My memory was cheered
I caught a frame of heaven then
I even choked a tear
The vastness of the reeds and creeks
Was being stroked with white
The Master here was painting
Oh what Holy sight
Tis said He and our Mother
The woman of all strength
It was her perogative
To show her strength at length
What a grand treasure then
My eyes with creatures gawked
When wings of a mystery
Came the flash of a Red Trailed Hawk
They was creating contrast
With red feathers as her brush
The sable of this Goddess
In silent winter's ...hush
Silence is respected now
As dappled white creeks drift
The Mother signed her canvas
With a flourish Red Tailed gift
Again I have a front row seat
The pleasure of a chance
To watch agog at a power play
When magic came to dance
With phosphorous of a winded kiss
They came blowing from the west
To give a difference to the south
With white kisses and cool caress.

We ALL remember it!!! I'm sure I do. I drove in it as well. You've described it and analysed it wonderfully here. Cheers

Sometimes there is magic in the Christmas air and when it touches us it is truly amazing. I think we all have a special Christmas miracle or two that we hold dear.

It's allways such a pleasure to be eyewitness to Nature's spontaneity
and unparelleled beauty. Beautiful and brilliant, you crafted this
like a fine painting....

Susan, a magnificent canvas you've painted with beautiful images of a winters storm at its height. There are so many interesting scenes for a reader to dwell upon & to enjoy and never to tire of reading. Your voice is soft and showing all the beauty along the way. I'd say this is a winner.

I love snow, but we don't get it much here in Texas. I miss it! Very well penned, Susan; and I love the graphic! Pretty!

Will be back soon; membership ran out; plan on being back within a week or so. I can review or answer messages, but no posts until membership renewed. Not to worry; someone is already taking care of it! :)

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

A rare occurrence in Dixie, but one that left a lasting memory. I remember a four-day honeymoon in northern Wisconsin. It snowed every day but the roads stayed open. A winter wonderland every turn. Especially the madeleine islands looking like white mushrooms floating on the deep blue Lake superior waters.

Snowfalls can be spectacular, especially in places that normally don't have snow. Like Texas. Like Galveston, a year (two?) ago--they were making snowmen on the beach! 'Round here, all we usually get is ice. Or flurries. Actual SNOW is rare. Still and all, you bring to mind many snowfalls of my youth in Ohio...thanks for the memories. Beautiful, Susan, image and write.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
