Christmastime has become a time for partying
and showing off, spending lavishly and foolishly,
while best intentions fall by the wayside. If you
would like to honor baby Jesus on this time of
the year. All you have to do is ask yourself,
"What would Jesus be doing?"

Best Intentions

Christmas is that time of year,
when best intentions magically appear.
Do we have them throughout the year,
or do we have them just from fear?

Fear that we have neglected faith?
Fear that we might lose friends?
Fear that we have not made amends?
Fear that we are somehow failing?

And so we shower loved ones with gifts.
Have family squabbles and other rifts.
We empty our pockets with lively cheer,
not thinking about the coming year.

But what about those that are left out?
Ones that are hungry and live in doubt?
Unseen millions with no Christmas cheer,
and then, those who wasted another year.

Can you leave your friends and buddies to party,
go forth and serve the needy and hungry?
Save the money you spent on expensive things,
pay the bills or spread joy that sings.

Do you have carried out best intentions?
Or do you just have honorable mentions?

Your thoughts about Christmas are well-expressed and meaningful, Ron. The Christmas spirit ought to be shared all of the time. Love and peace to you,

No money in my life do I have, I fear,
I can't even buy my best friend a beer,
So just for a rather big change this year,
I celebrated Christmas sitting at home on my rear...

Hope you had a Merry, Merry & that your New Year is both prosperous & healthy...-e-

All we need to do is look at the clouds of any given day. No two formations are alike! This is another priceless blessing from the treasure of God's awesome creations! All we need to do is look up!
BTW: Great poem! You inspired me to write another poem on the same subject. Thank you Ron!

CHRISTMAS, MORE THAN ANY OTHER TIME, IS WHEN GIFTS ARE GIVEN. WE DO IT, OR SHOULD DO IT, BECAUSE WE REMEMBER THAT GOD GAVE THE WORLD THE GIFT OF - HEAVEN'S BEST...HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, JESUS. NONE OF US WERE WORTHY OF HIS GIFT. EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS TO BE LEAD BY THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE AND REASONS AS TO WHAT, THE AMOUNT AND HOW THEY SHOULD GIVE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS; THE RECEIVER(WORTHY OR NOT WORTHY)IS STILL BLESSED. AND THAT'S WHAT THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT IS ALL ABOUT. IT'S TRUE THOUGH, SOME DO GO OVERBOARD. BUT THEN THE 'SUPREME' 'OVERBOARD' SACRIFICE WAS MADE FOR US...FOR BEST INTENTIONS AND CERTAINLY, FOR HONORABLE MENTIONS. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I only exchange gifts with my sisters and brother-in-law, when we celebrate together, but we all live apart.

Always,

While your lyrics ring true, I have a clear conscience, though one can never do enough to help those in need throughout the year.

Your sentiments speak truth as well as for-warnings that good will toward oneself and others begins with thought, not stuff. I still find, as I have always, that a personal card, or email wish from someone (the thoughts of their conscience at this time of year) speaks loudly of who and what they are, and as such, give a hint of what my environment is or might become. Then there is the thought into action. With so many ways to express compassion, thankfulness, and just plain kindness, I continue to be mystified at the lengths to which the grand populous goes to materialize the day. (Even for a secularist like myself, the teachings of Jesus in my youth still hold valid, even though the supernatural has become but a blip on my radar screen now) I don't venture out into the world as much now a I used to in LA and NY, but up here in Oregon, there's much less need to step out and find validation for myself (save my daily trips to the organic market for goodies and the ritual of 10 miles biking. As I have looked around at Holiday time over the past decade or two, I'm always reminded of the quote for a false persona perception "Quite frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Good intentions or honorable mentions? Excellent thought to close your obviously sincere message. Kudos.

There was a song we sang in a choir I was in called, "Fellowship of Man". That's what it's all about. Sad that so many forget.

Love ya!

Ron,

A POWERFUL poem that causes us to THINK about our life and our "intentions". This is a keeper, Ron.

Christmas is many things to many people, and yes! The true meaning of that day has been forever lost it seems.
