Summer turns to autumn
Scarlet sky alight
Eager eyes they clock watch
As long day’s turn to night
The warmth of sun is over
Coolness in the air
A plethora of auburn
Arrives without a care
The fiery transformation
Crimson covers green
The bloody red of summer
No longer to be seen
We stand out like heat addicts
Cursing covered clouds
Stripping us of what is left
Nature’s cruellest shroud
Yet all this is transition
For there is worse to fear
Just around the corner
Winter starts to sneer
I agree with the other two reviewers. With a few words you have encapsulated all the beauty that is the coming of autumn and the signal of winter ahead. The simplicity, yet directness of your lines lead us through the process in a way that raises the emotions like September Song and other great poetry.
I just love this poem. Read it to my wife, and she enjoyed it, too. Autumn is such a lovely time. It is my favorite season...a rather sad time of year, but wonderful nonetheless. Blessings to you, Dean, and thanks for entertaining us with this enjoyable piece.
