In springtime breeze, a mournful sound
The chirping birds in song were found
A dear one’s soul had taken flight
And left us in the morning light
The robins wept, and the sparrows cried
As feathered friends took flight and sighed,
Their melodies, once sung in day
Now mournful, haunting, led the way
The swallows darted to and fro
Their wings are a blur, their hearts a-glow
But now they swoop and circle low
Their spirits were heavy, filled with woe
Woodpeckers drummed a mournful tune
Their feathers dull, their spirits strewn
The world now seems a sadder place
Without our loved one’s smiling face
Yet even in this time of pain
he birds still sang their sweet refrain,
A tribute to the love we’ve lost
Whose spirit, like the birds, embossed
In spring’s beauty, love lives on
As nature sings a hopeful song,
And though our hearts may ache and weep,
Our loved one’s soul in eternal sleep
