More than Forty Heads of States from Africa are meeting in China to devise strategies of partnership in the areas of economic recovery and development. China has already had a lucrative trade relationship with Africa and supplied heavy machinery for agricultural development such as tractors when the Eastern block nations provided tanks and other heavy weaponry to let Africans kill each other. In some instances they were even more welcome in Africa than the Americas who hardly gave funds without political strings. Now china is re-inventing itself in a continent plagued by civil wars, appalling Aids records and acute poverty as a result of leadership failure. In Somalia we remember the Chinese with the construction of a beautiful National Theatre, a long tarmac road stretching thousands of miles across the country, a soccer stadium with a capacity of 50,000 people and a Child and Mother hospital which was recently re-opened by a group of women actiists (HINNA)after its activates were suspended due to the civil strife that had been raging on in Somalia over the past 16 years. However the new China-Africa partnership does not address the deteriorating human rights records and the atrocities being committed by certain African leaders to suppress the voices of freedom and democracy.
