Paradise Is You
I said, “Lord, have mercy, want a cabin in the sky,
meadows--lush and green--blue birds singing, fresh water nearby,
children laughing, babies cooing, to sit beside You on high,
to be near You, Lord, by and by.”
Felt a sly smile slowly spread across the face of His Grace.
He was once flesh, born to die for sins, a sacrificial fate.
Despite His suffering some haven’t turned--with fate they race
like a fox from fresh hounds--at an invigorating pace.
“No two people picture paradise exactly the same.
If you want a cabin in the mountains, who would complain?
Not everyone wants a mansion in heaven, that’s plain,
to keep the bubbling brook, would you mind a little rain?”
“We have people wanting spring, summer, autumn, winter.
For preferences, sign up at Heavens City Center.
Paradise is vast--devoid of evil, ev’ry sinner.
Too few arrive daily--everyone a winner.”
I said, “Lord, have mercy, all I want is You somehow
to be with me some time so I’ll never be all alone.
I’ve tried very hard but never managed well on my own
without You how would I get by?”
I felt another grin spread across the face of His Grace.
“Loved before creation, ‘twas born, died, and for you have cried,
from the beginning till the end I am with you inside.
E’en in heaven, that link exists. In you I will abide.”
“Haven’t you figured it out yet? My Paradise in You!
Every child makes mistakes but most still manage to
to give Me credit for things I’ve done. Some e’en share My view.
All I ask is to become the Everything ... for a few.”
