Love Held Him
When Christ hung upon the cross
on a hill called Calvary,
it was His choice to be there
to hang upon that old tree.
He came to bring salvation
despite pain and aggravation.
Man-made nails not strong enough
to pierce His worn, Godly, hands.
Saving mankind was His goal—
what held Him there was love.
His head hung … letting sin in.
He came, died, to sit men free
therefore death was victory!
That sin came from you and me--
and others … generations …
from Earth, from every nation.
No man could have held Him down;
He surrendered with a frown.
Christ didn’t have to yield, die—
what held Him there was love.
His heart heavy with our sin,
‘twas His way to bring us in.
What an awful cost … our loss ...
though it brought eternity.
An apple once was eaten
in a garden called Eden ...
and what followed was chaos;
too few saints, many sinners.
He came to build a bridge, Hope—
He was nailed with, died for, love.

This is the truth of Redemption. Jesus Christ in all His Divinity and nature as God, humbled Himself to become man to shed His blood as the Living Sacrifice, pure and perfect, for the blood of bulls, and lambs, of even man, cannot pay the price for sin and open the way to heaven and to the Father. The Holy Spirit would not have come without His death. That is the mystery and it can be experienced by each one who comes to him and accepts His gift of new life.
