In my 20s and 30s I was a weekend drag racer. Then I grew up. This year my brother Jim built a car and started racing. He's 50. Racing stays in your blood and I'm feeling that call. I guess next year I'll build a car.
good one Day, and I do relate, also a part of my slate, I'm getting mustang fever again, as in Cobra, I'm also getting Harley fever again, haven't rode in years, also I'd love to build one of those old muscle cars, cheers
I had a '69 Nova and loved it... I did not race the car but it was really cool. Before that, I had a '62 Chevy ll, forerunner to the Nova, lowered in front, dual pipes...hot car until it kissed the losing end of a snow drift, in a very deep ditch. Anyway, I digress...
Just the other day I found my lead foot
on an open country road with no cherry bombs

cranked up the Rock & Roll
and my mph! 96...Reckless!
But invigorating!!
I had a 1974 Malibu ss stock 350. Fun car but saddled with the early emissions nonsense. The 60's were the years. Patrick

I grew up in a racing family too. My father used to race Porsches and Alfa Romeos all around the NE: Watkins Glen, Nelson Ledges, Lime Rock, Mosport (Canada), etc. It definitely stays in your blood. I've always been somewhat of a Formula 1 guy myself. Very emotive piece for me.
I love this. I hope you jump back into your dream. In my teens I used to drag race at the New England Speed Way and fantasize about doing a real race. But my Cougar with a 351 clevland didn't have what it took. I most often drove my friend's fairlane.
ah,,my cousin Butch Blair was a drag racer.holds a world record..his car (fugowie) in California,,you should google him..any way, watched a few of his races years ago..phew..F A S T...love your poem~
Can't find enough superlatives to express my admiration. I don't know a carburater (sp?) from an oilcan, but I know a great poem when I

Started t'say "smashing," but it sounds too much like crashing. I once had a boyfriend who was into drag racing. Still remember visiting him at a hospital. Eyes peering from head-to-toe bandages.
Admittedly, he was accident prone. Wrecked a motorcycle and a boat.
Still alive, it's a miracle.
Thank you for sharing this gorgeously conceived and written ode.
Wounded veteran and battered woman face more trials together!
After an RPG attack on their barracks in Afghanistan, corpsman, Wade Scott wakes up in an Army hospital in Germany with his right arm gone. His other friends were wounded too. Luk
Let yourself take on a sexy adventurous read, walk on the sensual dark side of human adventure through the shadows of your mind. And, challenge your senses of the normal versus the paranormal, and the abnormal. Accept the quest, get onboard and disco
LOL James Dean would be proud.
Looks like an average day in a Cuban car park.
Then you should definitely heed it.
Cheers,
Dan
