Adieu!

He looked out the window
Pain ripping out his heart
As he blames himself
For letting it all fall apart

 
His little baby girl
His one reason to smile
He promised her a lifetime
Yet he couldn’t accompany her a mile

 
Now, he closes his eyes
As one by one the tears escape
He thinks of all that he would say
If he had just one more day

 
“I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
I’m sorry for all I’ve done
Forgive all my mistakes
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do
To hear your voice again
At times I want to go back
To when it all began”

 
But there’s nothing that he can do
And in his heart he knows it too
He can still hear her voice say
“Daddy adieu!”

 
Maybe he was too stubborn
And his ego got in the way
Whatever the excuse maybe
He ended up pushing her away

 
He was too much of a guy
To tell her how he really felt
And it turned her heart to stone
Impossible to melt

 
Oh! If he could have just one more day
He won’t let silence take the stage
This time he would swallow his pride
His feelings he would no longer hide
And this is what he would say

 
“I would hold you in my arms

But there’s nothing that he can do
And in his heart he knows it too
Time, so fast it flew
Leaving him with the memory of an echo
A memory so well he knew
Of his daughter saying
“Daddy adieu!”
