Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone.  ~G.B. Stern

Gravity

Gravity had the hardest job on earth
And was so very proud of itself
Such an honor, to have this responsibility
Keeping everyone grounded, yet mobile
It was a a juggle of ease for Gravity

But sometimes

Gravity felt unappreciated
No one marveled, at gravity's consistency
Or round the clock dedication

In fact

To add insult to injury
Nobody mentioned gravity at all
Unless they wanted to avoid it

The ingrates!

They talk about ways to avoid me
So they could go flying off
Like the birds and insects

I have a pact with those creatures
I allowed them flight
And they agree never to leave the earth
It has been that way forever

Besides I find them amusing
When they bite the humans
Or drop (with my help) organic matter
Right on their heads

(Gotta Laugh)

Oh yes....and the invisible flying pigs

I hold the humans tight
Make their structures possible
Their games, their food supply

I keep the oceans pooled

I am their anchor

The basis of ALL safety and security

Yet I go unappreciated

Gravity thought and thought
Becomming angrier

Feeling unappreciated, and
Worse of all

INVISIBLE!!

So a decision was reached

Gravity would leave

No announcemnts, just up (haha)
And go

Let them see, what it's like without me

So gravity left..........

And everyone followed!!!

Muuhaahaa

Anita ...
Your images are always so unique. What a pastiche this one is of motion and humor.

And the write is profound on disparate levels. Not only does it make you chuckle, but it also makes you ponder what it would be like if that actually happened. A great premise for a science fiction novel. You forgot to mention that we all, sadly, lose our battles with gravity eventually, as our sagging bodies will betray. The rat!

I believe that you have become the Alice In Wonderland of the Den. What else is in that garden of yours? This was very creative and insightful.

I will never take gravity for granted again, but I would like to see it take a long break now and then - that would be most amusing!
