I’ve seen dozens and hundreds of dogs,
And each one with its hair bristled up.
They may be sleeping, sleeping by themselves;
And may be on move, running about their own paths.
But if I throw them a bone,
They fight over it, growling and attacking each other.
This is because the bone is one,
But they are many—no way to divide it into equal parts.
