Every sort of regime is the negation
Of national consciousness itself,
And it holds people back, as the reins
Of the jockey hold back the dashing steed.

Sometimes the jockey is good, and then
He helps a steed to win the race, but sometimes,
Alas, he is not so good. Another time, it’s not a jockey
That is holding the steed back but simply a racing cart.

Every regime has no use for fine horse thoroughbreds,
The best proof of which is that it has not produced them.
Instead, it murders them or sends them into the asylum;
It wants only steady, plodding, and draught horses.
And ultimately, it gets plenty of them indeed.
