Kindred Spirits

One of many poems attempting to come to grips with the suicide of a friend.

Take her pain into me

For a life was ended so abruptly
Something in you died that night
A boy who finally stopped the fight
Everyone wonders about the why
How a young man would want to die
Nobody cares about the fee
If I died, would anyone remember me?
What the price for his mortal soul?
If I paid it for him, where would he go?
If I joined him, could I replace his spirit?
When I call his name out does he hear it?
If I told him everyone taught a lesson
Would he still pull the trigger, unable to move on?
If I ever asked, could you tell me why
Little things now make me cry?
If I sacrifice my soul for him
Is that vanity or love within?
When I mourn for all his chances missed
My life has been by his death kissed
