On this momentous occasion, a childhood parody springs to mind ---

"Oh say can you see,
any bedbugs on me?
If you do, pick a few,
'Cause I got them,
From YOU !!! "

Then there's the other old favorite:

"My country's tired of me,
send me to Germany,
they'll feed me there.
They'll feed me sauerkraut,
until my eyes pop out,
from ev-er-y fountain spout,
let sauerkraut sprout! "

Yeah, I know --- SICK - SICK - SICK!

Tough job, but somebody's gotta do it!

May all your PICNICS not be NIT-PICKING!

Hey, hey -- Ho, ho - Hee, hee ---
they're coming to take me away, HEY-HEY!

Remember REDS BUTTONS?
"Hey, hey, ho, ho, hee, hee...
I once had a teacher,
he taught me HISTORY,
when asked 'who shot Lincoln?'
I answered ' DON'T BLAME ME! '
hey, hey, ho, ho, hee, hee!"

And now, for the ENVELOPE..... DRUM ROLL...

JOYOUS JULY FOURTH!

Copyright: 7/4/2007 – Tom Hyland

Let me be the FIRST . . .
‘Cause SECOND sucks. . .
This line is the THIRD,
Done on the FOURTH.

I can’t plead the FIFTH,
‘Cause I’m using the SIXTH sense,
Wish you ALL --- SEVENTH ‘eaven,
‘Enry the EIGHTH I ain’t.

We may be down to the NINTH inning,
But the count is not the TENTH,
Altho’ the hour is the ELEVENTH,
Until the TWELFTH of Never.

Remind you of anyone of renowned amount?
How about Sesame’s – THE COUNT?

Flags waving,
Hands saluting,
Bands playing,
Fireworks Shooting.
Kids are Hooting,

Hot dogs cooking,
Buns are warm,
Bees are all a-swarm.
Beers are cold,
Knights are bold,
Ladies all A-perm.

Yeah, I know, some GOOFY thoughts,
All strung in a row,
But just had to write sum-thin’
Don-cha know?

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
THE FOURTH OF JULY, SEVENTEEN SEVENTY-SIX,
ENJOY THIS TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIRST ANNIVERSARY.
GO AHEAD – GALS N’ GUYS – GET YOUR KICKS,
ALBEIT NOT --- ON ROUTE SIXTY-SIX!

GOD BLESS AMERICA --- AND YOU TOO !!!!

TOM

July 4th on each year is special to me. My 3rd daughter Kaye was born on that day and was 40 now in 2008. Never too late to read good holiday poems like this. Seems you really celebrate the 4th with lots of food and all. Patriotism shows through of you in these writes. Keep it up all year through.

A rousing rendition for the Fourth! Love it: and you.

You remind me of my Daddy, with his silly songs. One of his favorites:

"Ridin' along in my automobile,
Hit a crawfish and lost a wheel..."

It's early in the AM (JAYS, 2:15--gonna have to go to BED soon), can't think of any more, but he has a million of 'em: 'course right now, he doesn't feel like singing, in the nursing home getting rehabbed to recover strength after having bacterial pneumonia: took a lot out of his (almost) 77 year old body. Say a prayer for Daddy Don, would ya? 'Would appreciate it--

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Hope your Fourth was all the glorious spectacle you deserve!

That's a beautiful flag garden, Tom. Is it made of flowers?
