1. NO ONE IS PAYING ANY REAL ESTATE TAXES NOW, ON THESE WRECKS! 2. ALL THESE JOBS PROVIDE HONEST EARNINGS FOR WORKERS! 3. ALL OF THESE JOBS PROVIDE BASES FOR BOTH FEDERAL AND STATE INCOME TAXES! 4. ALL OF THESE JOBS PROVIDE PAYROLL TAX DEDUCTIONS! 5. ALL OF THESE JOBS PROVIDE PRIDE AND DIGNITY TO THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS! 6. ALL OF THESE JOBS GIVE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES A RENEWED PURCHASING POWER! 7. ALL OF THESE JOBS ARE FOR 'LOCALS' ONLY! NO 'OUTSIDE' BIG CORPORATIONS REAPING HUGE PROFITS FOR SOME OTHER STATE! 8. THERE ARE PROBABLY EVEN MORE BENEFITS, TOO NUMERABLE TO MENTION! WHY ARE POLITICIANS - DEAF - DUMB - AND BLIND?

J.O.B.S. © - Tom Hyland - 5/8/12 AKA ... ‘BEATING A DEAD HORSE!’ Perhaps like many other Cities, Baltimore has in excess of 35,000 Vacant Homes! Every Block in the Inner City - Boarded Up Properties. Not unlike a ‘Bombed Out’ Ghetto! In the past several years, I have been on the Radio, No less than three times, calling in on a Talk Show, ‘Mid-Day’ with Host, Dan Roderick. Twice, two different Mayors were the Guests. When I made my suggestions, the Responses Were merely ‘Lip Service’. “Oh, We’re Doing That!” BULL-CRAP! A ‘Handful’ of Renovations are Occurring, ‘Piece-Meal’ at Best! Small Projects, here and there, Probably by a ‘Select Few’ of Contractors. Face It - Besides the Housing Industry, The Worst Hit Area of Unemployment is Construction! Thousands of Men and Women could be Put to Work! ‘Creative Thinking’ combined with ‘ACTION’ is Needed! MY ‘COMMON SENSE’ PLAN: 1. City Incorporates a Separate Building Commission. 2. Arrange Contracts with Building Supplies Companies, Like Home Depot and Lowe’s - for Mass Purchases at DISCOUNTS! Lumber, Plumbing, Electrical Supplies, Fixtures, etc. 3. Select Specific Blocks in One Concentrated Area - Say, East Baltimore First - Then Start En Masse - PHASES: STRIPPING - ALL Homes in Each Block Simultaneously! Anyone can Use a Hammer and a Crowbar! TRASH REMOVAL - Hundreds of Pick-Up Trucks are Here! PUT THEM TO WORK! RENOVATING - Carpenters, Plumbers, Electricians, Inspectors - All Busy with JOBS! FOOD - All These Workers Need to EAT! Hot-Dog Carts Everywhere! Pizza & Subs Delivery! Chicken - Salads - Sodas - Water - Juices - and More! HOME OWNERSHIP - City Can Hold RAFFLES! And/Or - Sell AT Cost! And/Or - Rent Some Homes - And/Or - Self-Finance Mortgages! REBUILD BALTIMORE! BLOCK BY BLOCK BY BLOCK! Next - West-Side - North-Side - South-Side ... UGLY, UNSIGHTLY GHETTOES GONE! Block by Block by Block ... RENEWAL - RE-BIRTH - RENOVATION ... BALTIMORE COULD LEAD THE NATION! SET AN EXAMPLE! WHAT POSITIVE THINKING & ACTION CAN DO! AM I ‘BEATING A DEAD HORSE’? Unfortunately your plan makes too much good sense to be adopted. Besides there is not ednough graft built in to grease the palms of every middleman. We have the same problem here in Manch Vegas, Cow Hampshire.

Won't work.... they're all too busy raping New Oleans. But if you somehow do get it started in Baltimore, after they finish maybe you could send them to Detroit. Dick

Great idea. It's a public that's to blame. First, they ignore vacant houses into their vandalized so badly that they can't be restored. And then, no one seems to want to move into what they consider, a “bad” neighborhood–a misconception because crime in some of these neighborhoods is much less than in so-called securer outlying neighborhoods. I've seen renovated houses sit empty until they are vandalized.

Another problem is the banks. They are getting money at zero interest from the Fed, but not lending it out to small business (the biggest source of jobs). If these projects can't get start up money to renovate houses, they can't get going.

Everyone is stuck in their own little loophole, and no one is moving.

Sorry, my friend. Common Sense and Politicians seldom get to meet, especially these sad days. Get some big fat political kickbacks or enormous campaign contributions going, and they might bite.

Beating a politician can get u charged with assault & battery & get u in jail to the say the least...but the idea of renovation of Baltmores ghettos is a damn good one and you know right where it would go even if it were put on paper, right down the crapper or through the shredder...e
