My mother never worked anything but menial jobs, and my father was a truck driver, a Teamster, receiving a Teamster pension that did not continue with his death to my mother. Anyway, my mother is now at the point where she needs to leave her apartment and move into a small assisted living home. She and my father enjoyed 20 years of hanging out at the lake in summer and warmth of South Texas golfing during the winter. It was a wonderful retirement that encompassed about one third of their working lives.
As for me, I will be working (writing) until my dying day, taking little or no time off for "retirement." And I will make sure that I will vote for the most empathetic and least money grubbing of politicians.

And the cutting will continue. I'm amazed that only half of them are millionaires; maybe the other half are hiding their wealth in offshore accounts.
It sadly takes millions of dollars to get elected to office today, and our so called 'leaders' cater to those giving them the millions needed to get elected. Who do you think they will cater to; The average Joe contributing $10 to their campaigns or the special interest groups contributing $10 million???
