As in the other poem, I was a single father and I spent a lot of quality time with my oldest daughter. Both of my daughters are grown now so it is bittersweet to read this again. This comes from my book on poetry: "Acorns of Love and Wisdom, Poem for the Every Day Person".
THE TODDLER, LITTLE SUMMER
Tiny little steps
From tiny little feet
Tap, tap the floors
Of our house
Then stop
And I wonder
What you're into
Thump, you're down
Tap, tap, you're up
Your giggle
Tells me
Of your favorite game
Chase
The dogs around
Infatuated
I'm captivated
By your adventures
Curiosity
The glow of your smile
Melts old hard dad
As you say "da da"
And come to show me
Your new discovery
And when you're away
Tiny foot steps
Echo in my thoughts
I find
My keys
In your favorite hiding place
And my pen
No longer has a cap
