An allegorical piece. Derive your own conclusions.
I can't get the image of two monkeys out my mind deprived of their senses deaf, dumb and blind Separated as it were by a pane (or is it pain?) of glass, trapped inside and yet reaching still across the great divide. One sick monkey fingers outstretched watches her mate sees him thumping his chest Guttural cries emitted in grief He feels her being raped by cruelty beyond belief and is helpless but to rant and to rave Beaten by circumstance awaiting the grave Helpless monkeys so near and so far might as well be experiments floating in a jar...
This is eyes overflowing with sorrowful tears sad. There really is no other way to describe it. While you have expressed perfectly the pain that you can only imagine that they feel, you bring to us in overwhelming words that are truly heart wrenching real. Great yet sad write... :(
As with another piece you crafted on this subject matter, your words are so powerful, yet pleading; to express both so effortlessly is a tribute to your style. Being a lover of all animals, these peices touch me at a very intrinsic level. I would be completely in support of a new PETA campaign using your verses as an attempt to awaken more people to the abuses of our fellow creatures. As always,...riveting!
Thanks! for speaking out on this cruelty Chanti- So sad and so real in this life- I hope other cures are found very soon-With research being so well known and all- This straight out theya' Life- a sadness being deeply felt- Great Poem Chanti-- Miss hearing from you by the way- Hope al is Serene within- WArm HuGs2U-Peacefully,Sheee
Chanti sis, please don't think me too bold. But I have a re-cap to show you just how this particular poem fits my life to a custom made tee.
I can't get the image of
a little girl from my mind
deprived of her defenses
separated from her friends
threatened and beaten by those unkind
forced to suffer unspeakable pain
in a place where she is hidden
and yet for freedom reaching still
from across the great divide.
One sad little girl
arms outstretched for a hug
watches her freedom wane
as she crumples on her bed and cries.
Gutteral cries emitted in grief
she feels herself being raped
by cruelty beyond belief
and is so helpless
but to rant and rave.
Beaten by circumstance
awaiting her freedom to come
a helpless little girl
sees her future as dark and bleak
that she may as well be an
experiment floating in a jar...
Sis this shows how poetry written can be talking about our lives in a very round about way. Your poem so reminded me of the dark days of my inncocence so cruely stolen from me, by jealousy, hatred, and abandon. Thnx for letting me share my version with you sis. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn to a fault, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sad sister, Barbie
"If I have to be this girl in me, Then I may as well be."
You've hit a nerve with this provocative poem, Chanti, which assures us it's a strong write. Thank you for your kind words on my work. Much love, Nordette.
This is disturbing and provoking in much-needed and agonising ways, Chanti, and it's good to be reminded time and time again of the costs - often "hidden" or at the very least "veiled" - and the high price with which our taken-for-granted provisions, health and freedoms are bought. Just the visual alone churns the stomach. The knock-on of having to consider the issues you lay so deftly before us is that before too long, my weak brain has to switch off again before my mind starts spinning into all the implications and analogies that can be drawn. It's like you poetically pull the end, very gently, very sensitively but oh so firmly, of a gigantic ball of unsavoury twine - good for you, and not in a heavy-handed way, either. This is impressive. And, as usual, I am just totally blown away by your wholehearted appreciation and support of my work. You are an absolute angel! Mwahs xx !! TY LOL Kate xx
Deep pain in this one--but thank God for medical research. Look at the advances in life expectancy, the cure or diminishment of many diseases...however, a bold, thought provoking write, effectively and very well written.
I agree wwith you Chanti, it is sad, and I wish they could find another way. However I also wonder where I'd be right now without the drugs that have saved my life, if there hadn't been animals to test them on. It isn't easy to think that they may have died to give me life, but we don't think like that when under a surgeons knife having heart surgery;-) It is a dilema, one I pray can be solved one day. Excellent write.
Love,
Eileen
This speaks volumes of the cruelty still being perpetuated to animals in the name of research and the promotion of new products. bold write Chanti.
Hugs,
Felix
So deeply sad. I feel like one of the monkeys right now. Better to be a monkey than a human as far as I am concerned. Less guilt. More pain I guess. But that's okay. You, as always, get your point across dear Chanti. Love always.
Far too sad, and I believe unnecessary. Many of we humans like to deny that we, too, are animals on this planet. Yet if we are so different from these creatures, what can we possibly learn to benefit us that would be worth such cruel treatment? But on the flip side, if they are like us, should we condone torturing one of our own?

Yes, it is a sad image to think about and I really don't like too think about it all that much, because I abhor cruelty to animals. Still, you must admit that through research much has been accomplished at the expense of these poor creatures and we benefit daily because of it. Does that make it right? In the long run, yes. Does that make it right? In the immediate we hate to think so because of what they are subjected to. A poem that causes us to pause, reflect and wonder if there couldn't be a better way. I think not. You must try out these "miracle" drugs before you can give them to the public.
