Coming back to SA after being away for almost four months, brought its own shocks. My son who seemed to be but a boy when I left has turned into a man. When did this happen?

Poem Artwork

When did you get so tall my son?
Once I cradled you in my arms
And now you hold me to your chest.
Where once I held your tiny hand
Yours now holds mine.
I feel awed when I look up into your eyes,
shining with bright blue mischief.
You're barely past boyhood.
- only just turned fourteen
but you're already over six foot four.
Your childish giggles
have given way to a manly chuckle.
Your voice has changed.
and the deep resonance surprises me.
Still I am your mother
and you will always be my child...

I love you Tiger!

It's a particular blessing that my son, nearly 17, is just about able to look down on me now... we strain for every millimetre of height in this family!!! It is a clinical fact, I believe, that sons will ALWAYS be taller than their mothers... and a particular JOY for me to be cradled and held in my own son's arms after so many years of holding him to me... Aye, Chanti, our mothers' hearts just go on and on fair BURSTIN with love, adoration and pride for our boys whatever the season... for our girls, too... but reckon their is just something EXTRA in the crossovers in the sexes, mother/sons and fathers/daughters. Just wait til Tiger goes a courtin... !!!!! :)) Beautiful family moment, Chanti... Bless you. Kate xx

A sweetly lyrical "mother-son" moment.
Your absence has not dulled your touch, milady!

"When did you get so tall my son?" Reminds me of a song I heard long ago that slips my mind just now. I hope your time away was good. Lovely, very lovely poem.

Ah the same holds true for my son, Shaun. Once the skinny little sprite, allthough he will be the perennial child. Touching write, Chanti...

Tender and heartfelt; no matter how big the kids get, they are still your babies! Very well done, Chanti; brava!

It is both a happy and sad occasion when a parent comes to this realization, sad that the little child that was so happy to cuddle in Mommy (or Daddy's) arms is now an adult, but also happy to know that our worry, hard work, love and teaching has paid off and produced the pride and joy before us. Well done Chanti
