the inner hum of words unspoken,
the sound of hate that must consume him?
Spit and snot and tears,
lost years
No longer young.
Who could know what he has seen,
Where he has been,
What horror he has known?

The silent wailing will always be there unfortunatley for far too many...it's disturbing but so very true.
I have seen the faces of children in war torn countries who no longer have that childish sparkle in their eyes. Youth snatched away and replaced with tyrany and despair.

sadly, I think change has had its chance...
and nothing has changed but the faces.
This one strikes out with the force of a sledgehammer to the heart...so much reality and pain in these few words and all too much to think about as we know how much torture is still going on in this so called civilized world of ours. It's so nice to see your name come up again on the list of new poems...Chanti I can only say you have been sooooooo missed. Welcome back

Michelle, my dear friend, the inspiration for this was the photo. Children at war has long been a bone of contention for me and images of children with guns in Africa have always haunted me. I once wrote a poem called 'I see the War in your Eyes' which I posted up here that chronicles this horror from my own perspective. This was another in the same vein. When will the madness stop?
