Do not force your love upon me,
however well-intentioned it may be.
Can't you tell that when you push,
I push back and then retreat?
Rather, love me gently like a leaf in the breeze.
It plays with light while connected to the tree.
Love me like a river flowing over rocks.
It doesn't move them
but it smooths them
in its gentle trajectory.
You see, I can't be uprooted by harsh tugging -
the push and pull of a forceful will.
I go way too deep.
But if you loosen the soil around my roots
and tilt my head like a fragile flower,
I will see that the light shines from your face.
I think anything born of gentility is bound to bloom with sweet purpose. I lovely message dear Chanti. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poetry with me this evening.
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
