I feel the night,
Wrapped in its profound insight.
I welcome the stalking night,
Sneaking up upon a day in fright.
I gaze upon its watchful eyes,
Staring down from the darkened skies.
I feel the hush of its mysterious glow,
A sound all should listen to and know.
I particularly savor its tender touch,
Its careless caress never felt so much.
Its mystery inspires perpetual desire;
Its inner burning sets my heart on fire.
Within me its premonitions ever grow;
Its latent fear is dragged along in tow.
Silence has robbed the day of its voice;
Night speaks volumes by its own choice.
The cloak of night protects those lost;
Night’s chill mimics the feel of hoarfrost.
The veil of night takes my breath away,
Silenced, even if I had something to say.
The proud night flaunts its meager insight,
Until day yet proclaims the mystery of light.
I love the night best of all. I love the sounds of the nocturnal denizens and the wind through the trees. Add a gentle rainstorm into the mix and I am in heaven. A very nice write.
The night does have it's way of protecting the lost. Maybe that's why I am drawn to it and light candles as if it is holy. 'Love this poem so much!!! Write on!!
In your poem you give the night a lot of romance, mystery and empty fear that it may or may not be warranted. You certainly have written it with great poetic license when night is merely the rotation of the earth and shading the sun on the other side. This regular rhythm of night and day is part of all life forms on the planet and absolutely necessary for our existence.

And then, like Jerry, on warm nights with high humidity, I feel the heavy air wrapping around me like a blanket and allowing me to freely walk in the night without any concern or fear.
paradoxically, but it is night which grants us with light in mind, while the daytime is full of dark and uncertain things. . . a good night poem ;)) Cheers, alex
