All I Ever Wanted

All I ever wanted was to savor the day,
To escape darkness and the devil’s pay.
All I ever wanted was to see into the night,
High upon a mountain peak in all its fright.
All I ever wanted was the question’s answer,
That stalks thru our lives like a wild panther.
All I ever wanted was the mystery’s unveiling,
The ways of the world and its secrets revealing.
All I ever wanted was to pursue my heart’s desire,
To love the beloved and to set my mind on fire.
All I ever wanted was to seek wisdom’s advice,
To find solutions to life’s challenges that suffice.
All I ever wanted was to want the right thing,
To bask in God’s glory and to let my heart sing.
