Another poem about destiny; sometimes one poem isn't enough.
Destiny Unveiled
By John Herlihy
I was not at all born for the sedentary world;
Inner forces have me into the unknown hurled.
Who can account for the strange forces of destiny?
Some people pursue facts, I have pursued mystery.
An explorer driven to explore undiscovered lands;
A vagabond drifting idly across endless desert sands.
A seeker determined to lift the veil hiding the unknown;
A mystic lost in a sacred trance laying waste to the known.
Our destiny lies there before us, simply there for the taking;
Our destiny unravels as a ball of yarn, simply for the making.
Pundits in today’s sophisticated world make destiny a myth;
Destiny’s glitter for a goldsmith; destiny story for a wordsmith.
Destiny waits for no man, his/her hesitation notwithstanding;
Here today, gone tomorrow, with no possibility of abandoning.
In living our lives, we come to witness our destiny unveiled;
Each tale told by a single voice, until the final breath exhaled.
You gave me wiggles in my tummy!! The mystery and the urges to solve or see how fast the gust of life comes at one moved me. You've done it again!! Bravo!
You can't have too many poems about destiny. It looms ahead of us with its mysterious ways. We want to catch it but are too afraid to see what it hides.
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
